6.   MBTA COMMUNITY: Meeting to Discuss Improvements to Route 57       (6/22--6:30pm)

 MBTA header

Bus Route 57 Community Meeting

Dear MBTA Riders and Interested Parties,

The MBTA has been working with the community to develop a series of improvements to Bus Route 57. Based on community feedback, the MBTA will be presenting progress design plans for implementation, including: the addition of customer amenities and bus stop consolidation. Bus stop consolidation will result in changes to the location of some bus stops. Bus stops may be relocated and/or eliminated. We want your feedback on these proposed changes.

Bus Route 57 operates between Watertown Yard or Oak Square and Kenmore Station via Newton Corner, Union Square and Packard’s Corner. It provides high frequency service to these areas in addition to serving important destinations such as Boston University, Agganis Arena, Fenway Park, St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, several schools and shopping centers. It also provides connections to the Green Line ‘B’ Branch and many other bus routes including Key Bus Routes 66 and 71, Express Routes 502, 504, 553, 554, 555, 556 and 558, and the following local and crosstown routes - CT2, 47, 52, 59, 60, 64, 65, 66, 71, and 86.

8.     An open letter to my Fort Hill Neighbors (Re: Dudley Square Area)  (ARTS MART--6/25)

Open Letter to my Fort Hill neighbors

Hi my name is Kai grant and I am a proud Roxbury Resident & homeowner of 10+ years on Fort Hill in John Eliot Square. I grew up on Norfolk Street in Highland Park; raised four wonderful sons- ages 23 years -14 years old here in Roxbury.

I am also a board member of Dudley Mainstreets, involved on several committees in the Dudley Square area. I am truly trying to “Be the Change I want to see” and am encouraging all my Fort hill neighbors to do the same.

This open letter comes to you from a deep place in my heart to see the Historic Dudley Square revitalized back to it’s glory of it’s once thriving economic past.

In order to see this passion realized, I put together an idea that was to incubate the (hopefully) future businesses of the Square in the same fashion of SOWA in the South End. I called ours WoW! (West on Washington) And it was to have an International Bazaar feel to reflect our neighborhood’s diverse population. Food was to be a huge focal point as we have Greek, a variety of African, Asian, Southern-Bistro, Dominican, and the like. However, there were mounds of bureaucratic obstacles that made things quite challenging for us to execute the idea to the desired scale. (We may have to wait a year or two in order to get there!)

Therefore, we have decided to do an Arts Mart in Historic Dudley Station inviting local artist, businesses and entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products. Mayor Thomas Menino, MBTA General Manager Richard Davey and Boston Police Commissioner Davis will be in Dudley the same day as the Arts Mart to unveil the new restroom making it a stellar time to have this event!

At least 20,000 people travel through Dudley on a Saturday. Let’s add to that number by walking down our Hill and financially supporting local businesses and keep the dollar from leaking out of Roxbury. So far we have graphic artists, quilters, Roxbury T-shirt designers, Milners and many more that are showing interest in vending. Their biggest concern is having the financial support of the abutting neighborhoods that will come and support financially.

Please neighbors---come down and invest in your community!!!

Among the many objectives of our forum, we seek to create measures that will help produce women entrepreneurs, stabilize the education system across the continent, end gender inequality and establish accessible health care.

To further the cause of international understanding and global change, this conference offers four workshops along with professional development exhibits:

1.      African Women Entrepreneurs in the Global Economy.

2.      Achieving Gender Equality, and Ending Violence against Women in Africa

3.      Harvesting the Future: The Implantation (or Birthing Stage) of Higher Education in Africa
