Absolutely Local & Luscious
Eat Local Food & Meet Local People

On Saturday, August 21st from 2 pm - 5 pm, the Local Food Committee of the Sustainable Business Network (SBN) in collaboration with
The Partnership, Inc. invites you to
our

ALLocal Picnic
with
Garden Girl

This will be a very special summer afternoon at the home and gardens of Patti Moreno of Garden Girl TV.  Enjoy a $35 family style picnic in Roxbury with fresh ingredients harvested from Patti's own gardens as well as other gardens in the Boston area.  Children under 10 are welcome for $10.

ALL = Absolutely Local & Luscious!

ALL ingredients will be: sourced, processed, prepared as close to Roxbury as possible and within New England

future of food

On her Garden Girl TV website, Patti says "I want to bring you into my home and garden, to let you twist those juicy tomatoes off the vine and bring them to the dinner table. I want to empower individuals to supplement their daily diets with fresh locally grown food from their back yards, patios, decks and window boxes." and you are getting the chance to actually do this for real!!!

"The Garden Girl compound, three-quarters of an acre, is just up the road from Roxbury Crossing. Her main garden is made of 16 raised beds and she also has a 40-by-13-foot raised bed "kitchen garden" designed to feed her family of three for at least six months of the year - plus coops she built for eight chickens, stalls for two cashmere goats, and hutches for eight angora rabbits." (Boston Globe)

From this setting, Patti has created hundreds of how-to videos, easily viewed on her website, that motivate thousands across the country to get growing.  Sign up for this picnic of grilled meat, corn on the cob, a variety of salads and a seasonal dessert and then go for information packed entertainment and inspiration at Garden Girl TV.

5.  Eviction Blockade in Everett called off.  (POSTPONED TO 8/26, or maybe 9/19)
=============================================================================

Monday Everett Eviction Blockade called off
Eviction postponed at least to Aug. 26, maybe to Sept. 19
We hope to complete negotiations for a sale by then

Dear friends

Thankfully, the Dumerant families were given more time by the Malden District Ct.  GMAC's lawyer rejected any further stay, despite a new offer from Boston Community Capital to buy the property at real value and resell to the Dumerants, and despite the fact that Mrs. Dumerant had surgery only Thursday.  Nothing matters to the Bank but the bottom line.
We only put out our alert when it was clear the Bank would not voluntarily back down.  The court was our last effort before the blockade became necessary.

As always, thank you for following our eviction blockade alerts.  We are winning many cases.  Families regularly proclaim victory in our Tuesday night meetings.  But the struggle remains very tough.  Our victories are often won at the last minute.  We count on your support to make that possible.
We will continue to follow the Dumerant's case.  And there are other families who may need a blockade alert in early September.

The new law
Passage of the new law mandating just cause eviction protection for tenants in foreclosed buildings (the Governor signed last Saturday) was a very significant victory.  Banks will be forced to end all no-fault evictions of tenants.  We still must defend former owners in street actions against the Banks.  And the Banks may sell tenant-occupied properties to investors who will then themselves seek to evict (the new law applies only to the foreclosing lender).  We will be defending our members against those investors.  We encourage everyone facing a foreclosure sale to have their buildings well decorated with our signs and arrange for some of our members to come with our banner at the auction

     Thank you again.
