3.   Monday - eviction blockade in morn AND vigl in evening  (9/13--8:30am + 6:30pm)
===================================================================

Monday, September 13

A day of Struggle against the banks

8:30 am – Eviction blockade at 8 Inwood St. for Martin Ovalles

                   Off Olney, Off Bowdoin, in Dorchester

6:30 pm – Vigil for the Dumerant family, 48 Mansfield St. in Everett

                   Rt. 99 north from Rt. 16, to City Hall, right on Mansfield

                   (104 bus up Broadway from Sullivan Sq.  Get off at City Hall)

             We won a big victory in the legislature.  The banks can no longer evict tenants no-fault after foreclosure.  But they are still trying.  We will stop them house by house.  And they are still trying to evict homeowners.

            There is growing national recognition that our movement has been right all along.  Obama has called again for reduction of principal as necessary to solve many mortgage problems.  We have been saying that for 3 years.  A Federal Reserve Governor recently called on banks to accept rent from occupants of buildings after foreclosure.  We have been saying that for 3 years.

            Many people who thought principal reduction or eviction defense was wild radicalism a few years ago now think it is necessary.  But what they often don't want is the concrete struggle that makes it all possible.

            We will continue the struggle!

            Martin Ovalles and his daughter are being evicted by Deutsche/HomEq.  They are the only people left in a 3-decker.  They can easily accept his rent and sell occupied.  We will block this eviction!  Some people will risk arrest to stop this eviction.  We were unable to get court action today to stop this eviction so this blockade looks pretty definite.

            The 2 Dumerant families (4 children and an elderly mom) faced an eviction blockade a few weeks ago.  We won a stay until Sept. 16.  The Dumerants got a new mortgage from Boston Community Capital.  BCC negotiated with GMAC (the foreclosing  lender) to buy.  They were narrowing the gap when GMAC broke off negotiations and put the property under agreement, apparently with an outside investor.  We plan a vigil Monday evening. There is no risk of arrest.  No eviction is scheduled yet.  But we need a good turnout to support the Dumerants!

            As always we ask anyone attending either event to follow the discipline of City Life and the Bank Tenant Association in regards to signs, chants, and picket line conduct.

            See attached press advisory.  Flyers for each event available electronically if you want.  Ovalles flyer is also in Spanish.

Thank you all dear friends.

Boston police complaints
Dear all, I wanted to let people know that the ACLU of Massachusetts, the National Police Accountability Project of the National Lawyers Guild, and Suffolk Law School pro bono program are teaming up for a project to help people who want to file complaints about the conduct of Boston police officers.  We hope to begin with about six law students in January.  They can help with the filing of complaints, assisting the person as Internal Affairs handles the complaint, and with any appeals that the person may wish to file about how their complaint was dealt with.  Please feel free to refer people to the aclu office.  We will review their information and determine if the project with Suffolk can help them.  If you know of other organizations that should receive this email, please forward it on.  Thanks, Sarah
