Dear Concerned Roxbury Residents,
Hope all is well. I know all of you are as excited about the Concerned Resident s' meeting tomorrow as I am. Unfortunately, there is a Community District 7 Candidates Forum at the Roxbury YMCA at the same time (6:30pm).
Because we were not made aware of this until tonight, we are postponing the meeting until next week. I will send the members the new date and time. As part of our outreach and recruitment strategy, it would be best if we all attend the forum not only to meet the candidates but to execute the next steps of our strategy to revitalize the Roxbury Neighborhood Council. I will have flyers and membership forms available.
We will all meet at the Roxbury YMCA @ 6:00pm before the debate begins. Please email me back if you will be attending. Thank you and sorry for the late change.

Residents of Roxbury are calling for:
DEMOCRACY, TRANSPARENCY, INCLUSION
from the entity called...
"The Roxbury Neighborhood Council"
Problems:
· the Roxbury Neighborhood Council is not a legal organization given its lack of compliance with the Public Charities Division of the Massachusetts Attorney’s Office, the Internal Revenue Service, zoning laws and its own by-laws
· selection process for membership in the Roxbury Neighborhood Council does not reflect the community. The RNC board of directors chooses the RNC members and there haven’t been annual RNC elections since 2005
· with all the development plans and lack of jobs in Roxbury, we desperately need a well functioning RNC and it must draw it’s direction from the entire interested Roxbury community
Our Solutions:
· In order to resolve the Council’s “Non compliant” status, the organization must file yearly financial statements to Public Charities for the last four years – and submit the $35 filing fee per statement to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Until those filings are submitted and approved by the relevant agencies, the Council cannot,
for any reason, raise or expend revenue; and any fundraising or expending of monies must stop.
· Create an accountable membership participation process that reflects Roxbury’s visions for development and other community opportunities by actively recruiting from Roxbury’s
12 sub-districts.
THE GROUP MUST RETURN TO IT’S MEMBER-DRIVEN STATUS.
Become a member if you live within the
RNC BOUNDARIES.
