1.   Foreclosure Blockade Alert:  Vigil Tonight  (11/3--6:30-7:30pm)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VIGIL ALERT  (Tonight Wednesday Evening)!!!!!!!

Wednesday November 3rd  (6:30pm- 7:30 pm)

168 Turnpike St., Stoughton

From Boston. Take Rt. 138 south from Mattapan Sq. Continue past I93. Proceed about 4.6 miles to Stoughton Center (part of this is Turnpike St., but the wrong one!). Turn left at Rt. 27 on Park St. Proceed about 1.69 miles. Turn left on Turnpike St.

Guy Lebrun and his family occupy a single family home in Turnpike Street. They were foreclosed as a result of their inability to pay the inflated mortgage value of the housing bubble (created by Wall St.) But they can afford to pay their mortgage at the real current value.

The Lebrun’s were approved for a mortgage through Boston Community Capital. BCC made an offer to Bank of America to buy the home, but the bank refused to consider the offer as long as the LeBruns still occupy the property!!!!

This is outrageous!!! We know that Bank of America (Countrywide) was responsible for many of the predatory and bad loans which have directly led to the crisis and they were one of the first to get bailed out, with our tax dollars.   The least they can do is work families after foreclosure instead of pursuing no-fault evictions!

Bank of America will get the same money, either way. Why punish this family? We demand that they enter negotiations with BCC. If they don’t like the price… just say so. But don’t just refuse!!!

IT’S TIME FOR ACTION!!!

We Can’t Stand For This!! We must come out, support this family and let our voices be heard. We must let Bank of America know that we pledge to fight any attempts at evicting this family. Because, when we fight…..we win!!

Vigil and rally Saturday
Saturday, Nov. 6, 10 am, 1091 Hyde Park Ave., Hyde Park.

Then march to Sovereign Bank branch office on River St.

BCC offered to purchase the property owned by Carmelo Pierre and his family at this address on a short sale to avoid foreclosure.  They would then sell back to the Pierre's.  Sovereign accepted the money offer but then attached the condition that the Pierre's agree not to repurchase!
More details below... More in next email.

Bank of America should negotiate

The fight against the banks and the case of the Lebrun family

Here’s a little known fact of the mortgage/foreclosure crisis.  Many homeowners who cannot pay the inflated mortgages of the housing bubble CAN afford to pay a mortgage at the current real value.  When a bank like Bank of America forecloses and evicts the homeowner, that bank will then sell the home for the current real value (often after a long delay).  But, if they are going to do that, why not sell it back to the former owner at that value?  They could even attach conditions preventing a big profit if values go up again.

Of course, the banks are refusing to do this.  But in the Boston area, after many protests, they have been doing it.  City Life and the Bank Tenant Association, anti-foreclosure organizations in Boston, have been demanding, and winning, the right of owners to buy back their properties at real value.  We have been doing it by fighting bank evictions, working with legal services and a non-profit lender called Boston Community Capital.

Take the case of Guy Lebrun and his family, who live at 168 Turnpike St. in Stoughton.  They were foreclosed as a result of inability to pay the bubble price mortgage.  But they can afford a mortgage at current value.  They are willing to accept a limit on future profit (if there is any).

The Lebrun family was approved for a new mortgage with Boston Community Capital.  BCC made an offer to Bank of America to buy 168 Turnpike St. with the Lebrun family in it.  Bank of America has refused to consider the offer as long as the Lebruns still occupy the property!

That is an outrageous position.  Bank of America will get the same money either way.  Why punish the Lebrun family?  We demand that Bank of America enter negotiations with BCC.  If they don’t like the price, say so.  But don’t refuse to negotiate.

Millions of homeowners were caught in the housing bubble.  That housing bubble was deliberately created by Wall St. Banks.  Some of them, like Goldman Sachs, even bet that the bubble they created would burst, making more money off foreclosures.

Banks like Bank of America got major bailouts.  They are making record profits.  Their executives are receiving huge bonuses.  They are spending record sums on lobbying.  Foreclosure deeds are coming at a record pace.  There are now many allegations of “robo-signing” of thousands of foreclosure documents.  The crisis is getting worse.  Why can’t they negotiate with homeowners??

We pledge to fight any attempted eviction of the Lebruns by Bank of America.

A vigil in Mattapan in April, 2010, demanding that Chase negotiate.

Mayor Thomas M. Menino has announced that applications are being accepted for two positions

on the Boston School Committee.  The terms of Reverend Gregory G. Groover and Alfreda Harris

will expire on January 3, 2011. Rev. Groover was appointed to the Boston School Committee in 2007,

and has served as the Chair since January, 2009.  As the Committee’s longest serving member,

Ms. Harris was first appointed to the board in 1993. Both Rev. Groover and Ms. Harris have been

repeatedly recognized locally and nationally for their service to the city of Boston and for their work

with young people.

Boston School Committee members are appointed to serve four-year staggered terms.  When

vacancies exist, the Mayor selects members from a list of candidates recommended by a 13-member

Citizens Nominating Panel composed of parents, teachers, principals, and representatives of the

business and higher education communities.  Under the legislation that established the appointed

School Committee, “the Mayor shall strive to appoint individuals who reflect the racial, ethnic and
