On June 29, 2010 Governor Deval Patrick signed anExecutive Order establishing the Massachusetts Small Business Purchasing Program (SBPP). This program, within the Operational Services Division, will change current state procurement rules to target specific procurements to the small business community. In particular, the SBBP will require Executive Branch agencies to provide special consideration to eligible Massachusetts small businesses when seeking to purchase commodities and services valued between $5,000 and $150,000." In its second year, the SBPP will be expanded to include statewide contracts and Executive Department's large procurements valued at greater than $150,000. (Click here to learn more)

10.   Community Info. Meeting re: VOTE NO on the 3 Ballot Questions facing you in November  (10/5--7pm-8:30pm)
============================================================================

Community Information Meeting

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

7:00pm to 8:30pm

MAHA -  1803 Dorchester Ave

Three Ballot Questions Threaten

Our Communities

We need to make sure our families, friends,

and neighbors know about these questions.

Can You Help

Spread The Word?

Here's what the questions are & how you can help:

Question 1:

Would give a special sales tax exemption for alcohol purchases.  Currently, we pay the same sales tax on alcohol that we pay on other goods.  These taxes are used exclusively to fund prevention and treatment of addiction.  If this question passes, these services would face tremendous cuts, or the money would be taken from other vital services.

Question 2:

Would repeal the state's primary affordable housing law.  If this question passes, it would stop production of affordable housing in most communities across the state.

Question 3:

Would cut $2.5 Billion in community services by cutting the sales tax from 6.25% to 3%.  If this question passes, it will mean devastating cuts in schools, public safety, elderly services, after school and youth jobs programs, parks and playgrounds, healthcare, and more.

What You Can Do To Help?

1.         Attend MAHA's public information session on Tuesday, October 5th at 7pm

at the  MAHA office, 1803 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester  02124.  You will learn more

about the questions and the VOTE NO campaign.

2.         Work on MAHA's Phone Bank.  We plan to call 3,000 MAHA members and

graduates to make sure they know about the ballot questions.  We need people who

are passionate about defeating these questions and who feel comfortable engaging

people on the phone.  We will provide some training and pay a stipend of  $10/hour.

3.         Forward this e-mail to at least 25 people.  Ask them all to forward it to their networks.

4.         Post a "VOTE NO" message on your Facebook page.  Contact Michael at

            MAHA for a sample  myoung@mahahome.org

5.         Distribute Fliers

At your church, neighborhood association, football practice, etc.  We can e-mail you a

flier, or make the copies for you.  Reply to this e-mail, or call us at 617-822-9100 to

make arrangements.  Ask to speak to an organizer.

6.         Hold a Sign or Pass Out Fliers

Join a group of volunteers at a T station, or leave fliers at houses on your street.

Please Contact The MAHA Organizers To Let Us Know
How You Can Help, And What You Need From Us.
Our Phone Number Is
